A Feast of Visual Language

Earlier this term we were looking at a variety of poems including couplets, quatrains, haiku, cinquain, acrostic and diamante poems. Along with these we wrote a poem entitled 'How to Eat a Poem'. We brainstormed words that related to eating (gobble, chomp, slurp), as well as features we might find in poetic writing (similes, conjunctions, alliteration) then created our own poems. To present our writing we thought about a food or drink item and constructed a collage to compliment our writing. Here are a few examples (come and check out the rest in Room 6)

Speech Finals

Congratulations to the students from Room 6 for preparing and presenting their speeches a few weeks ago.

Our fantastic finalists were Xavier with his speech about "Fish'n'Chips" and Jamie who spoke about "Transgender and Binary-Neutral People".

The VAS Speech Finals were held today (1st September) and the bar was set high. All finalists spoke well and held our interest, presenting us with a diverse range of topics.

Well done to Xavier who was placed first in the Year 5 category!

RATBAGS
Senior School Production

After weeks of drama, auditions, learning songs, creating dance moves, gathering costumes, wearing make-up and rehearsal after rehearsal we have reached the stage (literally) of our production presentation. Ratbags has been quite a journey and it has given us a glimpse of what goes on behind the scenes of a production, as well as the excitement (and sometimes anxiety) that comes when presenting to an audience.

Here are a few photos of the students from Room 6...

The girls (waiters, chefs, butchers, bakers and one sneaky rat)...

The boys (also waiters, chefs, butchers and bakers)...

Sasha (Gnawra)...

Jamie (Head Chef)...

Well done Room 6 (and the senior school)...you were amazing!!!

Watch This Space!!!

(News from the Year 5 Camp to come...)

Grandparent's Day at VAS

Last Friday was Grandparent's Day and we had a great turn out. The choir, ukulele group, kapa haka group and band performed for the visitors and then grandparents could come to see the classrooms. In Room 6 we showed them some of our work, got into groups and compared what school was like in the days of the grandparents compared to school today.  A lot has changed!!!

Here are a few photos of grandparents of students from Room 6...

Alex with her grandmother (and Lucy)

Oscar with his grandparents (and his sister)

Jenna with her grandparents (and Thanishka)

Eesha with her grandfather all the way from Sydney (and Isabella, Maria and Anu)

Kaiu with his grandmother

Sasha with her grandparents (and Isabelle, Mila, Eugene, Dino and Lachlan)

Xavier with is grandmother and Hudson with his grandparents

There was a lot of positive feedback from grandparents, and students enjoyed being able to share their learning and showing them around school.
