For our topic this term, 'Rising to the Challenge', we have been using Lego and other building materials for construction challenges. In groups, students have different roles (engineer, builder, supplier, director and videographer) and together they have to construct something from the chosen theme. Writing in Room 6

Our focus for writing this term has been around description and narration. We talked about different types of characters and got busy creating our own protagonist for a descriptive piece of writing. Once we had designed our characters we included ideas about their physical appearance, their personality and any other useful information that would help with our writing. Room 6 Art

We have been busy creating self-portraits.

We drew over photographs with sharpie then traced over these to get our self-portrait image. Then we used pastel to create patterns on different sections of our image. Our goal was to use primary and secondary coloured pastels and the corresponding complementary dye (for example, red with green, blue with orange and yellow with purple). Here are a few samples...

Senior School Swimming Sports

This week we had the swimming sports. Many students from Room 6 competed in a range of races, with some gaining a placing in the top three. These students include:

Oscar: 

1st in 25m freestyle

1st in 50m freestyle 

1st in100m freestyle 

1st in 25m backstroke 

2nd in 25m breaststroke 

3rd in 25m butterfly

Anna:

3rd in 25m backstroke 

3rd in 25m breaststroke

Aimee:

2nd in 50m freestyle

2nd in 25m butterfly

Scarlett:

2nd in 25m backstroke

Putri:

3rd in 50m freestyle

Isla: 

2nd in 25m breaststroke

Cooper:

Lucas:

3rd in 100m freestyle

 

To end off the day we had the house relays. 

The results for the Year 5 girls relay were:

1st place: Karaka (with Aimee from Room 6)

2nd place: Kowhai (with Isla from Room 6)

3rd place: Pohutukawa (with Putri from Room 6)

The results for the Year 5 boys relay were:

1st place: Karaka 

2nd place: Kowhai (with Lucas, Oscar, Sam and Adam from Room 6)

3rd place: Pohutukawa (with Cooper from Room 6)

Buddy Class

Room 6 (Year 5) are the buddy class of Room 9 (Year 2). We had our first catch up today. We learned our buddy's name and a few things about them, then Room 6 read to the students from Room 9. Such a nice opportunity to get to know students from different areas of school and (hopefully) look out for one another in the playground.
