Our Monarchy

We have been busy this week making our annual gifts for residents of retirement homes (to be delivered next week). We decided to re-use an idea from earlier in the year (our gala canvas) and reproduced smaller individual versions. Have a look at some of the finished products...they look outstanding! I'm sure that whoever gets these will be appreciative.

There's always a drama...

Room 19 have had three drama sessions with Megan (the drama queen!) and had such a fun time learning about movement, freeze frame, chants, roles and levels.  We based a lot of the learning on a text called Tulevai and the Sea (a Maori myth). Here are a few photos as Room 19 demonstrating different connections at different levels:

The Year 4 classes went to MOTAT this week as part of our inquiry topic:
Curiosity Can Lead To Innovation.
We had a look at a variety of inventions and innovations throughout time.

Sammie and Erana chatting on some 'ancient' phones

Rex and Ava trying out an 'old' piece of technology...the typewriter

Emison and Ella using slate like children did at school during at the beginning of the last century

Olivia, Anna and Logan writing with quills

Addy and Grace matching up older and newer items that have been innovated

Gracie got to ring the bell and wear the drivers hat while we were on the tram ride

An old favourite...invented in New Zealand!

Visit to Poppies Kindy

Today Room 19 went to Poppies Kindergarten to deliver some resources that we made as part of our topic this term, Connecting with Cultures.

First we made a list of different places in our community that have their own culture (kindergartens, schools, hospitals, retirement homes, refugee centres).

Then we thought of different things we could do or make to have a positive effect on these communities.

Together as a class we found out where these place were, how we could contact them and what details we needed to include in an email (information about who we were and what we could offer).

Room 19 worked eagerly at making alphabet charts, number charts and nursery rhymes to give to Poppies Kindergarten. Here's an example of the end result...

DON'T THEY LOOK AWESOME?!?

Poppies were delighted to receive our resources and we feel we have been able to connect in a positive way with another culture in our community.

Constable Gordon came to school yesterday to teach us about scooter skills.
Room 19 had fun (and a few spills) testing their skills and practising scooter safety.

Sammie (2nd place)
Holly
Ava
Olivia

...and for the boys:

Sam
Callum

Congratulations to these runners and well done to EVERYONE who competed and tried their best.

Hello, and welcome to Term 3.

The term is well underway and we have been doing some great learning so far. Our topic of celebrations is based on community and culture. We are the product of many cultures (family, school, sports, ethnicity, country) and we have explored different ways people celebrate different things.

We have already made 'ojo de dios' and piñatas (both Latin American traditions).
